We are looking for an experienced journalist to join the Good Morning Britain team as Senior Planning Producer. You will be responsible for advance planning of both news and programme items for the show, identifying the right stories and working with a team of producers to arrange coverage including shoots, live broadcasts and booking studio guests.


You’ll be a qualified journalist with experience of working in a planning role for a news broadcaster and an excellent understanding of the needs of the breakfast audience. You’ll have detailed knowledge of domestic news and a track record of securing strong human interest guests; the ability to demonstrate strong editorial judgement and will enjoy working to tight deadlines. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to build rapport easily. Working knowledge of media law and Ofcom compliance issues is also important.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • A minimum of working for three years as a broadcast journalist with experience of forward planning for a network news programme. 
  • A high level of editorial awareness and news judgement with an excellent understanding of the specific needs of the breakfast audience.
  • A track record of developing strong relationships with key news figures and personalities to originate newsworthy stories and guest bookings.
  • Demonstrable experience of planning coverage of major news events like elections, sporting tournaments and court cases. 
  • Experience understanding the needs and requirements of production and operations when planning coverage of news events. 
  • Experience of working with a team of producers and correspondents to direct their efforts and use their time in the most productive and positive manner. 
  • Thorough knowledge of OFCOM regulation, duty of care, legal and compliance issues.
