The team

 

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It’s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in Millbank, London. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

 

The role

 

Applications are welcome from individuals with some technical or operational experience.

We are looking for a Trainee Production Specialist, to join the news team who produce our news programmes and bulletins at ITV News West Country. As a Trainee Production Specialist based in Bristol you will work as part of a multi-skilled team providing technical, craft, operational and administrative skills across all areas of the news broadcast service.

Given time, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills and to move between different duties on a daily basis as the needs of a busy and vibrant news operation require. With training and guidance, you will be able to develop your skills and experience in areas from operating the studio Sound desk during live broadcasts, Editing on-the-day news packages and feature style items, to production administration and scheduling, autocue operations, gallery timing, Traffic, media management and frontline technical support. 

The rostered hours will include weekend working, late shifts as well as early morning shifts and Bank Holidays.

As a Trainee Production Specialist, you will certainly have a passion for live TV news production, particularly in a technical or operational or support capacity. You will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly and approachable, you will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting programme production by having the willingness and aptitude to learn many new skills with appropriate training. Above all you will be an excellent communicator and team player who is quick thinking and calm under pressure with strong and decisive decision making skills.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)



  • Relevant interest or experience in the role and in at least two of the following areas: Editing, sound, directing, programme timing, vision, or Traffic
  • The ability to multi-skill under pressure
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Confident and clear communication skills
  • Proven ability to learn and apply new skills
